The Efficacy and Safety of Azithromycin for Patients with Cystic Fibrosis: A Systematic Review

Chronic inflammation of the lungs is a major cause morbidity and mortality in patients with cystic fibrosis. One macrolides, azithromycin has antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory effects that are useful diseases chronic inflammatory processes such as This systematic review aimed to determine efficacy safety administration for fibrosis improving lung function. There were seven studies selected, criteria RCT studies, all ages, fibrosis, compared placebo. After reviewing 71.4% stated there significant increase mean FEV1 being given therapy. Other outcomes FVC values, pro-inflammatory indicators, exacerbations, changes body weight, quality life. Azithromycin considered relatively safe well-tolerated patients.
